Civil Engineering:
CADD & Computerized Drafting Services
Coleman Engineering Company utilizes both computer aided design and
drafting (CADD) as well as hand drafting techniques to present projects and
ideas to our clients and contractors. We have the capability to provide drawings
on a number of different media including vellum, mylar, color ink on paper, soft
copies acceptable to the Intergraph (I.G.D.S.) format, film and video slide
presentations.
The individuals responsible for CADD have over 35 years of combined training in
computer aided design, drafting and architecture experience. Coleman
Engineering Company has developed computerized methods and routinely employs
such computer operations including data collection, compiling and
processing, and map and drawing configurations. Coleman Engineering Company
utilizes a number of software programs, to meet the needs of our clients,
including GARDS, gINT, MIT Aquix, MOC, Visual MODFLOW, SESOIL, SUTRA, WaterVel,
HEC-RAS River Analysis System, GTGS, AQTESOLV, WIXFER, EKKO_WARE, BUSCHEK,
BIOSCREEN, Thornwaite Water Balance Program, Dream, WaterCAD 6.0, HELP,
FieldManager, FIT, AutoCAD 2008 / Land Desktop 2008,
Autodesk Civil Design 2008, AutoCAD Map 2008, Microstation V8, Surfer 7, Caice
Visual Design software and ESRI ArcGIS.
GARDS and gINT are used in the completion of geotechnical projects. GARDS or
Geotechnical Analysis for Review of Dike Stability was developed by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. The program includes routines to assist in the
evaluation of dike designs. gINT is a program for the management and
presentation of subsurface exploration data. This program will provide output in
an acceptable format to be used by AutoCAD, spreadsheet programs, word
processing programs, and Intergraph (I.G.D.S.) format.
The Engineering Department utilizes a number of software programs in the
analysis, design and completion of projects. Some of the primary packages that
are used include Aquix, MOC, Visual MODFLOW, SESOIL, SUTRA, WaterVel, HEC-RAS
River Analysis System, GTGS, AQTESOLV, WIXFER, EKKO_WARE, BUSCHEK, BIOSCREEN,
Thornwaite Water Balance Program, Dream. These programs have been developed by a
number of sources which include the U.S. Geological Survey and are used in the
evaluation and modeling of groundwater and the fate and transport of soil and
groundwater contaminants. The results obtained from these programs are provided
in reports and drawings for review and approval by our clients and regulatory
agencies.

Coleman Engineering Company has completed a number of different
engineering projects using a variety of CADD and engineering software programs
in the process. Those programs include WaterCAD 6.0, HELP, AutoCAD 2008 /
Land Desktop 2008, Autodesk Civil Design 2008, AutoCAD Map
2008, Microstation V8, Surfer 7, Caice Visual Design software and ESRI ArcGIS.
The AutoCAD / Autodesk software package, Microstation V8, Surfer 7, and Caice
Visual Design software is used in the design of water and sewer projects,
earthwork calculations, site design, roadway layout and design, building and
process piping design. WaterCAD 6.0 is used in the analysis of potable water
supply systems. The client’s water system can be modeled and the reaction of the
system can be determined under a variety of situations. The proper analysis of a
water system is critical in the proper design of water system improvements.
Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance (HELP) was developed by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of this program is to model landfill design
alternatives and allow the design engineer to make informed decisions as to the
final design. Analysis of a new landfill utilizing HELP can be required by the
regulatory review agency prior to approval. When performing mapping services,
ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD Map 2008 are used coincidentally with all of Coleman
Engineering’s CAD software packages. Data such as existing and as constructed
information are incorporated into an easily retrievable database. Numerous other
sources of information can also be included crating the ability to quickly
compare data relationships that are critical in the planning of many different
types of projects.
The Survey Department maintains a computer design and drafting system for
standard survey calculations such as traverse adjustments, closures, and area
calculations for normal survey endeavors. This system includes AutoCAD 2002 /
Autodesk Land Development Desktop 3 with Civil Design and Survey. Software is
set up to receive input data directly from field total station/data collectors,
compile and manipulate data and produce a finished product.
Coleman Engineering Company's CADD and Drafting Department is supported
by a variety of technical people and professional engineers with CADD and
drafting experience. These individuals can meet the challenges of many different
projects. Coleman Engineering Company has the necessary depth and
resources to meet critical deadlines and to keep projects moving.
